On behalf of Marion County Sheriff Ed Dean,
Pipe Major Naomi McLain and the members of the MCSP&D;
Thank you for visiting The Marion County Sheriff's Pipes and Drums.
"The Sheriff's Own"

The office of the Sheriff originated in the British Isles where each shire or county had a "Reeve" or an appointed enforcer of writs or orders of the King. Hence the name of the office became "Shire-reeve". The office was incorporated into local government in the new world the name evolved to Sheriff.

In 2002; Ed Dean, the sheriff of Marion County Florida ordered that the Sheriff’s Pipes and Drums be formed. The Marion County Sheriff's Pipes and Drums is the only Pipe Band in the State of Florida to be an actual part of a law enforcement agency.

Since its inception the band, made up of almost entirely of volunteers, has performed at numerous funerals, parades, memorials, and civic functions. Dressed in a combination of the uniform of the Marion County Sheriff's Office and traditional Scottish military uniform, the band continues to be a unique representative of the Marion County Sheriff’s Office and the people of Marion County.
