About
Us
|
In
2002, Ed Dean, the Sheriff of Marion County, Florida; ordered
that the Sheriff’s Pipes and Drums be formed, to be a unique
representative of the Marion
County Sheriff’s Office and the people of Marion County. Since
its inception the band, is entirely made up of volunteers, has
performed at numerous funerals, parades, memorials, and civic
functions. The band is currently not participating in competition,
though several of the member pipers do compete in piping competitions
throughout
the Southeast. Our primary mission is to represent the Sheriff
of Marion County, the Deputies and Staff under his command, and
the citizens
of Marion County.

The
band's official tartan is the Clan Gordon Tartan. This tartan
was also worn by the Distinguished Highland Regiment, The

The base color ("ground") is forest green, which is the uniform
color of the Marion County Sheriff's Office and most Florida Sheriff's
agencies. The second most predominant color is blue, which symbolizes
strength, and is strongly associated with the profession of law enforcement.
The gold stripe signifies both authority and honor, which are hallmarks
of the Sheriff's Office.
